CCW Classes for Placer County Residents

Confidence Safety Academy is an approved CCW instructor for Placer County. We teach the 16-hour new-permit class ($300) and the 8-hour renewal ($200) in Rocklin and Loomis. Your instructors are Chad Hertzell, a retired CHP officer and former 82nd Airborne paratrooper, and Mindy Hertzell.

How the Placer County process works

• Apply online at placerca.permitium.com. The Sheriff charges a $20 filing fee when you apply and $80 when your permit is issued. Fingerprinting (Live Scan) is about $93 more.

• Upload a copy of your ID and two recent proofs of address at least 30 days before your interview, or the Sheriff cancels it.

• Your interview is at the Sheriff's Office, 2929 Richardson Drive, Auburn. You don't need your training certificate before the interview.

• Take the class and qualify with each gun you want on your permit, up to 3. Every gun has to be registered to you.

• Upload your county training form to the portal. You have 90 days, starting when your background is approved or when you get the form from your instructor.

• Renewing: $77. Since September 1, 2026, renewals also need a new Live Scan, so start early.

Questions about your application go to the Placer County Sheriff's Office at 530-889-7800. Questions about the class go to us.
